Kathleen Warner Yeates – TEACHING & FACILITATION EXPERIENCE
2002-Current: Owner and Director. Flying Turtle Productions at Abbey School of Drama, Dublin, Teach acting and drama to various ages and levels, and handle all promotion, production and curriculum design of the acting school. Manage a staff of 8 part-time master instructors. Classes range from “Children’s Drama Classes” to “6 month Actor Training”. Advanced courses end in a public theatre presentation.
2009-Current: Guest Lecturer, Dublin Institute of Technology, School of Media, Dublin, Guest Facilitator for final year film and media students teaching techniques for the casting process and methods for rehearsing and directing actors for film for their final year productions. Also teach first year students introduction to the acting process.
2012-Current: Corporate Voice Trainer, Broadly Speaking, Dublin, Trainer and course content designer for the “Finding Your Voice” seminar. The Broadly Speaking company is affiliated with the Women on Air networking group, and offers top level executive training to build professional communication skills in work and media.
2001-2004: Drama Facilitator, Finglas School Completion Program, Dublin, Taught in various primary schools in the Finglas area using drama techniques to reach children at risk of dropping out of school. Projects emphasise work on self-esteem, collaboration, and enhancing self-expression and creativity. Term ends with the creation of 8-12 original films which are screened for a selected audience.
2000-2002: Acting Teacher, The National Performing Arts School, Dublin, Taught acting for various classes ages 6-18. Term ended with a devised presentation for the students in the school.
1999-2002: Acting Teacher and Director/Writer, Act One School of Dramatic Arts, Dublin, Taught acting and wrote an original play for several different acting classes ranging in age from 6-18 years old. Directed and fully staged each production at the end of the year for a public performance at the Players Theatre in Trinity University.
1992-1999: Drama Facilitator, Arts in Action, New York City, Taught various 6-hour workshops (for ages 6-10) at schools and institutions in the New York City area. Incorporated theatre and storytelling techniques, and each term culminated in a public performance.
1991-1999: Drama Facilitator, Educational Network of Artists in Creative Theatre, New York City Taught during one and two-week residencies in the New York City school system using theatre acting techniques as an alternative education approach for High Risk and Special Needs students.
1989-1991: Wonder Wizards, Central Park Conservancy. New York City, Received a $10,000 grant to conceive, develop and perform in a program using theatre arts, audience participation, and visual arts, to increase environmental awareness for pre-school aged children in the Central Park Playgrounds in New York City. It involved the creation of costumed characters, the writing of a theme song, prop building, and the writing of a new script each week.
1987-1988: Part-time Faculty, Villanova University, Villanova, PA, U.S.A., Taught “Fundamentals of Acting I” to undergraduate students including the basics of script analysis, voice, movement, monologues, scene study, improvisation, and period styles of acting.
1987-88: Part-time Faculty, Penn State University, Ogontz Campus, PA, U.S.A., Taught “Fundamentals of Acting I” to undergraduate students. Course content as listed above.
1985-86: Part-time Faculty, Baldwin Middle School, BrynMawr, PA. U.S.A., Taught “Basic Acting Techniques” classes at a private girl’s school for ages 12-15.
1984 Director/teacher, Stagecrafters, Villanova University, Villanova, PA, U.S.A., Designed and taught a six-week acting workshop for students ages 11-16, including voice, movement , script analysis, improvisation, characterization, audition technique, and monologues. Culminated in a public performance.
1983 Teacher, St. Christopher School, BrynMawr, PA, U.S.A., Guest instructor for “Music and Movement” sessions with pre-school aged children.
