Character Improvisation (9-week) - Being finalised for late 2023

This 9-week PERFORMANCE course combines a variety of improvisation techniques, especially collaborative and character based long-form work, and leads towards a performance presentation night at the end of the class.

Best suited for students with some previous improvisation experience, this course is a step towards the kind of work done in ensemble-based theatre companies.

At the start of the course we will cover a range of improvisation skills including games, status, and deeper narrative work used for developing scripts. A large portion of the class will be spent developing original characters, and exploring those characters (complete with costume and physical transformation) in various situations.

Depending on the nature of the class, we may construct mini "playlets" placing these characters in shaped situations with improvised dialogue. We will also create an interactive game with the audience using characters created from a specific genre such as Film Noir, Cowboy Western, Pirate, etc.

The course ends in a presentation evening in the Pearse Centre Theatre venue. The presentation include character-based improv in a genre style and improvised sequences using characters developed by you during the class process.

This course is best suited for students with previous acting experience and requires preparation outside class time and full attendance. Attendance required for technical rehearsal during the performance day from 11:00am onwards into the evening performance.

  • When: Course details being finalised - Please note commitment requirements above
  • Where: Class: Top Floor Studio, Flying Turtle Productions, 27 Pearse Street, Dublin 2 : Performance: Dublin city-centre location
  • Instructor: TBD
  • Fees: €325 / Non-refundable Deposit of €100 due within 3 days of reservation, balance of €240 due two weeks prior to start of class.

Testimonials

“This class was one of the highlights of my week! I looked forward to a couple of hours of leaving the real world, being silly, laughing, feeling comfortable being uncomfortable. Absolutely loved it and would do it again any time!”
