Announcing New Collaboration with the Stage and Screen Society!

Announcing New Collaboration with the Stage and Screen Society!

We are delighted to announce that Flying Turtle Productions has begun a dynamic collaboration with the Stage and Screen Society , which is the newly formed “next generation” of the prestigious and historical United Arts Club based on Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin.

This is an inspiring initiative to create a center for creative support for those practicing in the film and stage industries whether a recent graduate of a training program or an active working professional.  It was so exciting to be present at the recent launch of the Stage and Screen Society were UAC president, the world renounned filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson, spoke about the importance of this kind of an organization.

Flying Turtle Productions will be providing a series of short, specialized ongoing workshops for the Stage and Screen Society. SEE WORKSHOP DETAILS BELOW. These will be two evening and one evening concentrated skill building sessions. Additionally, we will be collaborating on future productions.

Members of the Stage and Screen Society will benefit from many ongoing events, performance salons, networking opportunities, rehearsal space, community support, additional skills development and the generation of new productions.  In an industry that can leave practitioners feeling overwhelmed and isolated, this organization is creating a home for those working in this challenging industry.

The Stage and Screen Society takes its inspiratin from the United Arts Club, which was started in 1907 with founding members including W. B. Yeats, George “AE” Russell, Lady Augusta Gregory and others.  As well as founding the world-famous Abbey Theatre, these writers, along with Ellie Duncan, Count Casimir and Countess Constance Markievicz, founded the United Arts Club. Unusually for its day the Club offered full membership to men and women from the start, and was not politically or religiously aligned. Over the years the Club became a vibrant social amenity attracting not only artists from all disciplines but also patrons of the Arts.

If you are a director, writer, actor, producer, technician or master facilitator, this organization could provide a base for you to collaborate and create.  See more information below.

FLYING TURTLE 2024 WORKSHOPS WITH THE STAGE AND SCREEN SOCIETY:
(SASS members have a discounte benefit, all other non-members at the normal rate. )
All workshops to be facilitated by Kathleen Warner Yeates unless otherwise announced.

Expanding Physical and Vocal Expression
Dates: Wednesdays 6:30-9:30pm, October 16th & 23rd , 2024  (Two evenings, attendance at both sessions required).
Fee: €70 for SASS members, €80 for all others.
Description: This series of two Wednesday evening workshops, will be a deep immersion into re-awaking the actors physical and vocal techniques for those with some previous experience either in class or in the profession. Particular attention will be paid to expanding vocal capacity, awakening the psychophysical process for actors, exploring physical conditions (pain, injury, exhaustion, elation, etc.), using body centers for character exploration, and engaging with a variety of vocal placements. Once introduced, we will then be applying these techniques by working spontaneously and collaboratively to create characters and improvised scenes.   You will be asked to prepare some work to share in the 2nd workshop evening.
Training is inspired by the work of Michael Chekhov, Cecily Berry, Kirsten Linklater, Roy Hart, and Rudolph von Laban, among others.
We will require participants to wear clothing that allows for full body movement. We may be working bare foot for some sequences, and we will be doing a lot of voice and body work so please bring plenty of water to drink.
Class size for this course is limited to 16 participants.

Bringing Script to Life!: Script Analysis for Contemporary Theatre
Dates: Wednesdays 6:30-9:30pm, November 13th & 20th, 2024  (Two evenings, attendance at both sessions required.)
Fee: €70 for SASS members, €80 for all others.
Description: In this two-night workshop we will be at the table AND on our feet to explore some of the techniques used by Stella Adler to make specific and imaginative choices that connect to the inner world of the character.
Stella Adler (https://stellaadler.com/)  was one of the few Americans who went to study one-to-one with Stanislavski in his later years of work in the peak of his understanding of the psycho-physical aspects of the acting process. Kathleen’s teacher was Joanna Rotté, one of Stella Adler’s protegés and the author of ‘Acting with Adler’.
We will be using scenes from well known plays and will be exploring the techniques within this context. We will be at the table working as well as on our feet exploring whole body behaviour that awakens inner connection and inspires specific creative character choices.  Additional blending of other acting teacher’s concepts (such as Uta Hagan), will also be integrated.
Actors will be asked to bring in elements of costumes and props for the work on the second night. Please wear clothing that allows for movement and bring water to drink. Attendance on both nights is required, and previous acting experience is required.
Class size for this course is limited to 16 participants.

Improvisation and Devising (single workshop evening followed by seasonal festivities)
Date Friday 6:30-9:30pm, December 6th
Fee: €35 for SASS members, €40 for all others.
Description: In this one-night workshop, we will explore and re-awaken the skills of improvisation and collaborative devising to create a brief performance of a festive holiday related theme.  This can lead to a serious situation or a fantastical creation, depending on the interest of the participants. The sky is the limit!
We will allow additional guests to arrive beginning at 9:00pm, to allow for a brief sharing of work followed by a festive celebration of the initial phase of collaboration with the Stage and Screen Society.
Class size limited to 16 students
